Hi there.

I'd like to make a pair of spectacles. I have managed to get hold of a nugget by trading but something in my head tells me that I have to discover the nugget by myself (I.E mine it).

Is this true? Or can I simply start looking for sand and make it anyways?

Same thing goes for a ranger's cape, do I need to craft the silk by myself?

Yes, you have to discover making glass and discover making a nugget of metal

I'm going to say yes, because one guy in my village did that and he was the only person who could build a mine support.

If you have a barter / vending stand you can discover items that way.
