Making a well.

Postby Gallows » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:15 pm

I have at least 1 of each ingredient required, I am at the water hole, and I cannot create a well. Help?

Yes I have the rope...

Did you discover rope, stone, a bucket, block of wood, and the dowsing rod yourself?
Do you have Stone Working?

You can't just have the items, you need to discover them as well.

You discover something when you are the person to craft/pickup/harvest/forage the item, so yes. Getting the items from someone else will not count as a discovery.

I fail. How do you get the water out of the well into a barrel?

Not pick up crafted items. As in when you chop blocks up and pick them up, that discovers wooden blocks for you but now no one else can discover wooden blocks from the block you've picked up. You'll need to craft the items, such as rope, yourself.
Chip the stone, chop the blocks, craft the rope, craft the bucket, and craft the dowsing rod to be able to build wells.

You get water out of a well and into a barrel with a bucket. Pickup a bucket, then with the bucket right click the well and wait ~5 seconds and now you have a bucket full of water. You can put the water in a barrel by picking up the bucket then right clicking the barrel with it.

We need a good phrase for this. "Discovery on creation" comes to mind. This covers things like blocks, boards, straw, and plant fibers even though they are automatically dropped to the ground. The other phrase should be "Discovery on acquire" where you get the discovery as long as you acquire an item from the appropriate location: bars (or nuggets) from a smelter, charcoal or glass from a kiln, etc. Collecting bones would be considered "on acquire" because anyone can pick them up, not just the person that killed or butchered the animal. (Of course there's the bug of the items being dropped to the ground if bags are too full and nobody getting the discovery.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

This sounds like a great idea. It was really awkward trying to phrase it properly otherwise. As for the bug, we'll just add that as a disclaimer that if the item does not land in your inventory then it is not discovered so you need to leave adequate room available. There are also special circumstances like using numen to get nuggets apparently discovers them as does getting an item from a barter/coin stand.
