Are they indestructable if you are above a certain authority point or can they be attacked no matter what?

I think that only lawspeaker / chieftain can destroy them.
I'm 100% sure that even when authority is below 50k outsiders can't destroy them

I destroyed an abandoned but owned village claim which I assume the authority was under 50k.

Is 50k authority easy to get? I'm still confused about authority, you get some daily depending on your charisma level right? Or do you have to pay with lp?

When you get LP, you get authority too. It doesn't take away from your LP. The amount of authority you get depends on your charisma, I don't know the formula - think of it as ... a photocopy of your LP? A carbon copy, maybe; you get the original for yourself, and the copy gets filed with the village.

That said, I don't know about starting a village, someone else did that, but I can maintain a village claim on my own (while the other villager's away on holiday) - it does make it easier to feed a couple of alts all sorts of poppies and feather dusters and things, and log them in whenever you need a bit of a boost in authority.

Oh ok, I think I will be able to maintain a village then. What is a good charisma level to have when starting a village?

Edit: Also what is the purpose of a cheift? Are they needed and do they help gain authority?

Only lawspeakers and chietains can do village-related stuff, e.g. building banners and crossroads, and adding signs to crossroads. My village's chieftain is one of the poppy-eating alts, who wears a chieftain's hat that gives him a +50 charisma bonus and makes those poppies worth a lot more authority - and it means I can add stuff to the crossroad without having to get the lawspeaker to do it.

@Procne

Unsure. I remember finding an abandoned idol one day so I claimed it, the area was useless so I unclaimed it then moved on. The next day someone else took it and it hasn't been abandoned since. I even checked if it was taken right before I destroyed it.

"If a village's authority falls below 50k, the village claim will lose its effectiveness. That is, anyone will be able to freely interact with objects inside the village claim (including stealing) without leaving any scents. The village idol can also be destroyed by outsiders when the authority is under this threshold."

I believe the answer is currently "no." I know Adventure->Destroy cannot be used on idols full of authority, but I've never tried ramming an idol. I've heard at one point you could ram them even at full authority. I don't know whether that changed but I think it did.

Procne wrote:I'm 100% sure that even when authority is below 50k outsiders can't destroy them

Wrong. Idols can be destroyed by anyone if the authority is below 50k. I have done it myself using Adventure->Destroy.

min_the_fair wrote:When you get LP, you get authority too. It doesn't take away from your LP.

Correct. By the way, authority is gained the instant any villager gains LP no matter where they are standing.

min_the_fair wrote:The amount of authority you get depends on your charisma

Yes, and also intelligence. The formula is Auth_gained = LP_earned * sqrt (INT * CHA) / 10.

killette2 wrote:What is a good charisma level to have when starting a village?

Even at 10 charisma and 10 intelligence, it is not difficult for one person to sustain a village's authority if they play every day.

killette2 wrote:what is the purpose of a cheift? Are they needed and do they help gain authority?

A chief is not necessary but it can be helpful. Except for the chieftain hat (which gives charisma), a chief is not better at gaining authority than any other villager. The purpose of a chief is to have a second person (apart from the lawspeaker) who is able to invite people and create crossroads, among other things. Sometimes the lawspeaker is not online often enough.
