Barter stand discovery

Hi. I would like a bear cape. I've killed a bear and discovered its hide. I didn't discover its teeth. However, some bear teeth have now come into my possession, courtesy of an abandoned noob settlement*.

Can I build a barter stand myself, put the bear tooth in it, and discover it by taking it out again? Or do I have to get someone else to build the stand?




* I logged out in the middle of robbing it - I'm not proud, I will happily take their amazingly low-q curios and their candleberry wax, oh yes. I logged back in to find the place being griefed. Whhyyy? What possible fun can it be to break the cupboards of an unclaimed, no-longer-palisaded, decaying house? I could have made myself something out of that cupboard of bones, damnit. Or of course, maybe Mr bear cape and necro robe was stealing the cupboards. In that case, fair enough. I hate making cupbards too.

The barter stand thing works.

I think you'll need to set it up with an alt and buy it with your main. I've only ever done that trick with 2 characters... I don't think it works with only one.

:*( Basically, yes. I didn't have a house, storage space was limited, I put the skeleton back in my boat to sort it all out after dinner ... and went off feeding chickens on the other account, and forgot all about it. Vast quantities of fail, I know. But apparently it happens if you just don't have quite enough space in your inventory, either, and the teeth fall on the ground.

Somewhere out there is a bandit-masked Russian who watched me kill the bear, pretended he was going to steal it, and very kindly gave it back instead. My life, eh.


... So I will now go and make an alt, and feed it curios and make it discover the wonders of flax farming. Joy. Thanks for the advice, Phaen.

If you don't have enough space in inventory when you collect the bones, you collect what you can and the rest drops to the ground without being discovered. It's a huge pain in the ass and was a constant source of questions when w5 first started. Same holds true for deer antlers and boar tusks.

You don't even need to do that. Toss it in the barter stand, shift click it out. No alt needed.
