Exiting Minehole and Walls

Postby Calixtus » Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:26 pm

I've noticed when climbing your minehole ladder you always exit on the NW corner of the minehole.

If I was to build my wall in this spot so the minehole was right against the wall would i still be able to exit the minehole?

You can exit it, but you will get stuck in the palisades and can't move.

It was actually changed a short while ago. If there is anything blocking the tile you exit on (going either direction) you can't use the minehole.

If you get stuck on an object and can't move, you can turn on sprint (if available) and keep trying to move. You'll eventually move off the object.

You can build it next to a palisade just fine, you'll just exit wherever is possible. And if it's not possible you get a "not enough space" message.

that sounds like an awesome way to prevent someone from using your mine hole to get in.

Okay 3 different answers!!

1. One no you stay in the wall

2. One no longer in wall as it was fixed but you can't use the minehole

3. You exit wherever there is some space

It wouldn't matter if I had put the minehole in a decent postion in the first place!

Mineholes function much like crossroads: As long as a space in the landing area is clear, it's all good. If the spaces are all blocked, then you can't use it. The ladder at the bottom has only a couple of possible places to exit. The hole at the top has a few, but I've not tested the bounds of what will and won't work. I know that the old trick of putting the gate where the usual exit is completely blocks you from going up if you have the gate closed. That would be if it looks like this (original exit spot is the topmost gate section):

Code: Select all
CWWWC
GHHHW
GHHHW
CHHHW
WXXXW
CWWWC

If there are other exit spots, then I would have them blocked by the wall instead of the gate.

I've also not tested exactly which spots at the bottom are valid entry points, so if someone knows those, they'll need to post them. (The post might exist somewhere already.)
