Fishing, is the wiki wrong?

Postby cyph » Fri Aug 26, 2011 6:36 pm

So i'm following the wiki to the letter trying to catch some plaice, current moon - waning crescent. Fishing in - shallow lake. Lure - Pinecone plug. Accoring to the wiki i should catch plaice and bream. But so far i have filled my inventory twice over with bream and pike. Is the wiki (Ring of Brodgar) outdated may i ask please? And if so would anyone be kind enough to tell me what i am doing wrong?
Thank you all for reading.

It's a player run wiki so articles are only as up to date and accurate as we keep them. If you notice missing information it would be great if you would help the wiki by adding or correcting incorrect/inconsistent articles =)

Most of the wiki is actually up to date and useful but there will always be articles scattered around that need to be updated.

Instead of just editing in what you think the correct information is, post what you've noticed on the discussion page or start a topic in "How Do I?" about it if the change your making isn't considered "common knowledge". Tired of people editing in wrong information. (Glad there's a revision history.) If you get nobody discussing it with you, then it should be safe to assume that what you're thinking is correct or nobody else has a better answer. Just be sure to note that in the wiki, too.

Just need to ask: You are using the most correct wiki, right? http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Haven_and_Hearth_Wiki

(I did notice a few things that could be updated, though they were minor changes and nothing wrong with the main ideas.)

As much as i would like to take part in editing and updating the wiki it would most deffinatly take the help of others to be able to get truly accurate information. Of course there is some ammount of randomisation when fishing on what and how frequent you catch. So i would ask this of anyone asking the same question as myself, next time your out fishing just take a quick little note of the following:

Quantity and breed of fish caught.
Lure/Bait used.
Time of day in game "day / night" (i have my doubts from my experiences that morning, noon and evening has any effect but day / night does)
Current moon cycle.
The water type you fished.

It should only take a few people to post to get some numbers going and i'll do what i can.

Thanks all

I caught a total of 52 fish when i stopped. 38 bream 14 pike (pretty safe to assume i wont be catching any plaice)
Using a pinecone plug
At night
The current moon cycle - Waning crescent
I was fishing in shallow lake water

You catch different fish with different equipment quality, all other variables being the same. So yeah, it'll take a lot of data to make a comprehensive fishing chart.

I'm even willing to say that fish caught depend on fishing spot.
I have a fishing spot which seems to give only perches. I tried fishing at different phases of moon, different times of day, different lures, different strings and in different areas (river, shallow and deep lake) and all the time I'm getting perches with occasional brill or pike.

Is it worth trying the same spot during the day?

The moon will still be in the same phase.

I found on my local spot that perch was pre dominat during the day and same spot gave variety of fish in th evening.

There's a list somewhere (or used to be... might be deleted or merged) by the phase of the moon, location type, and what fish can be caught with what lure/bait. Some locations will give the same thing no matter what bait/lure or phase of the moon. Other location types can vary widely.

I am aware of this list, since I was adding entries to it myself. But then I noticed they are no longer true in the next moon-cycle.
I have also wrote that I tried fishing in my spot:
at different phases of moon, different times of day, different lures, different strings and in different areas (river, shallow and deep lake)

To verify it even more I would have compare with other fishing spot at the same time.

But Potjeh wrote:

If this is true then should I reduce quality of my fishing pole? I can't reduce it too much as well since this will impact ql of fish I catch. But still it would be really strange mechanic

I definitely had to use low q gear to reliably catch eel in world 3. Haven't really fished seriously since then, so it might have changed.
