Whats the best way to find a friendly village nearby?

Postby popeye987 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 12:49 am

Hey H&H community, im new to the game, only been playing 2-3 days, but after getting enough LP and learning a bit ive set out from where i started. I would really like to find a friendly village to join and work together with them. Or even just a couple of people that are living near each other so we can help each other out when needed. For a little while ive been going around in a boat looking around, but the villages ive seen have been abandoned (with skeletons everywhere) or i can't find anyone to talk to, plus got to be careful from people that wouldn't think twice to trick me and kill me. So im wondering, whats the best way to find a friendly village nearby? i know there is a section of the forums dedicated to finding villages to join, but it seems to involve restarting and making a new character or finding tiny landmarks on the huge map (that doesn't even have everything on it so i might not be able to find myself) and then finding where the village is.

Also, just a quick question that i haven't done to much looking into. But is there a guide to installing Enders client (or someone elses client) easly? Like a step 1,2,3,4,etc guide that's easy to read?

Thanks in advance :)

theres guides in isnstalling enders ont he forums, if u google it or search the forums u should find it. athough its currently not working and requires a different fix.

as for friendly villages, u cant really tell. As a newb i'd suggest u jsut talk to people u meet, but be weary, since many will kill u on the spot for absolutely no reason. The village i'm in i'd consider as a friendly village, we help newbs around us that we know, however we can and have a no scents policy so we dont go assaulting or stealing anything which doesnt belong to us. but i dont know where u are in proximity to us.

good lcuk:)

You should really type correctly. This is an international community and not everyone speaks English. Translators often won't pick up on typos and abbreviations correctly. Thanks and much appreciated. ;)

Never a bad idea. The thought of death can be a bit taxing, though, with the high death penalties HnH has. It's up to each player to decide if it's worthy of the risk or not.

The best suggestion I can make on finding people is using the "Dwarves & Thieves" forum. Read the sticky at the top on making an effective post first. It'll save you many headaches and question asking mails. Not many established villages are going to take new players, though. Some will take on one or two at a time if you're willing to do grunt work such as dragging logs around and hauling carts until you get enough skills to be able to do more.

Personally, I like the hermitage. What I can't produce I can trade for. Quality forageables, farm goods, etc, are always needed by someone. (I will say that I've been thinking about joining a village for a while just for something to do. I let someone join my hermitage and they quit. It's just gotten too big for me to manage alone.

considering the english content on the general forums, i dont think my typos are that bad. but i understand what you mean about not everyone being english speaking and the typos and abbreviations not being particularly helpful:D

i only do that right at the start when my stats arent too high and i dont have much to lose. i made some good friendships early on this way with villages which seemed hostile. many of the newbs who now come to our village gates to chat, and kin etc have become good friends and some members of the village.

If you are bent upon finding people to be in a village with, like eemerald, i would suggest doing it now, before your character gets to strong (you have a lot less to lose a day or 2 into the game then u do in 2 weeks when ur some what attached to your character). Though it is likely easier to find people looking on the dwarves and thieves forum, and likely much safer.

Thanks for all your replies and advise :) I decided to just go hermit for a while, and i when i was building my house i was lucky enough to find a neighbor that is nice and helpful. Maybe after i get a lot more LP and experience ill go find a village that will accept me.

How Do I? isn't the rest of the forums. It's here to help players get going in the game, thus needs to have higher standards. While there may be Russian, Korean, and other forums for native speakers in other languages, many people don't have the benefit of having a forum in their native tongue.

Two weeks isn't really enough time to get too attached to a character, though if it's your first, two days is enough. :)

how do you what? your question doesnt connect to what i wrote above. not quite sure why my typos have aggrevated you so much considering the general content of the forum isnt always of these 'higher standards' you seem to follow. Regardless, i agreed with you that typos werent helpful to new players or those who are non english speaking.

I'm not sure if you're being obtuse or just missed it. How Do I? is the name of this forum. Congratulations if you're being funny, if you're not.
