Change/Tradition, which one should I use?

Postby somebody480 » Thu Sep 08, 2011 11:35 pm

I've usually gone full change as soon as possible when I create a character, and leave it that way for the massive lp benefit. After dieing a couple of times though, I am wondering if that was a good decision. Any advice?

Ideally it's best to avoid dying. If you're doing stuff where this isn't possible (say a life of crime, or living in hostile regions), then perhaps some more ticks toward tradition is expected.

Also you might run with change early on for a bit until you get a lot of your skills bought and some up; then start switching back toward tradition/neutral. Also drink tea and have high peaceful to get a little bit more learning ability.
Hearthlings: Marona; Chamberlain (retainer alt), Vincavec (shaman of the Dryad Wells Forest)

The amount of benefit from full tradition isn't worth it until you've hit endgame and are going to pvp constantly (even then quite a few fighters stick with change). Getting tradition would only gimp yourself.
My advice is to play more cautiously to prevent such deaths from happening, going full trad is not the solution.

Just in case you didn't know, moving any slider will also move the tradition/change slider towards change, so if you decide to go full tradition, move every other slider first (civ/barb, nature/industry etc) and only then move the slider towards tradition.

I wouldn't suggest it though unless you've already reached a point where you don't want/need to gain any more LP because you feel like it won't make a difference, say for example 600 UA.

Miner alts. Only reason to go full tradition. I might do other crafting alts to tradition, too, if I have their skills up higher than any materials I could possibly acquire to minimize any potential losses from unforeseen incidents.

Actually combat alts should be full tradition, but as others mentioned this is really for endgame purposes. Purposes that a hermit newbie probably will never reach. Then full change always is the better choice.
