Prospecting..? :D

I'm cluless on prospecting, I have rustroot extract, prospecting itself.... and the wonderful just about all the mine-taken haven and hearth lands. But what I don't get is how prospecting works. I do see that it says "No minerals found" obviously, when no minerals are found.. but is it like the dowsing rod? If a mine is nearby it'll show a red circle? Please help

it will tell you how close you are with a %, so you need to move and do it again and if the % goes up then you are going int he right direction
