Quality question

Postby JackSimple » Thu Sep 15, 2011 3:03 pm

I am interested in making a high quality herbalist table.

Based on my research the quality of the table is directly related to the quality of the wood and plant fibers used. The wood and fibers are directly related to the quality of the soil.

Does this mean I need to find 100+ soil in order to make a 100+ herbalist table (among lots of other things of course). Or am I missing something?

How hard is it to come by 100+ quality soil?

You can always raise crop q (as long as your farming is higher), it just raises slower once it surpasses the soil q.

And yeah, q100 soil is damn hard/impossible to find.

You are incorrect about this: The wood and fibers are directly related to the quality of the soil.
You can raise crop quality consistently if you are full nature on your belief slider and raise your farming skill regularly.
Soil will begin to slow down quality growth of plants once you reach the same quality as soil but it does not cap it. Quality growth generally drops by 1 or 2 points after you reach soil quality, so you go from +5 quality per harvest to +3-4 per harvest on average. It's more severe on crops like tea and pumpkins though due to their seeding nature.

As for trees, while soil is a key factor, the quality of your clay, water, fuel, and tree seeds will also play a role. You can raise any of these factors and see a gain in the quality of your trees.

So the only cap to seed quality is farming skill? Is there a cap to farming skill or can you theoretically grow infinite quality seeds?

Theoretically infinite, as far as I know :)

I think most people get bored first, even if they have a bot to do some of the work.

You don't have to be full nature to raise the overall crop quality, it just helps it move faster. I stayed at neutral nature/industry in w4 and had some of my crops up more than 20 points over soil quality when the world ended. It probably would have been 35-40 points if I had been full nature, though. Charts have been posted before showing the difference.
