Vinegar?

I noticed that several food recipes call for vinegar. I wasn't planning on getting into the winery business however it seems to me that in order to learn the recipes I have to actually make vinegar myself? Or can I just trade for the vinegar and will I learn the recipes that way?

Just trying to figure out how it all works. I'm was hoping to specialize and the trade for the things that I don't make myself. I hope I don't have to make everything at least once in order to get the recipes.

You have to ferment the grape juice into vinegar and put it into a bottle/bucket to get the recipes. And yes, it's like that with most things.

If you use a barter stand or vending stand you will learn it when you buy it. (you can also do this yourself by making a stand with a alt and buying it off him.)

You should be able to place vinegar into a barrel and remove it to discover it. I don't see why that wouldn't work.

You only need to fill a bucket in a barrel and you'll discover it, 100% certified. Thus just trade a barrel, you'll be able to discover + craft with it.

If you're farming and baking, no reason you shouldn't just produce your own wine and vinegar unless you just want higher quality than you could produce.

DamJNeT has the discovery on liquids 100% on, though you might need an appropriate container to discover some liquids. (I'm thinking of you, weissbier.) The barter stand works for other types of items such as metal nuggets and bars or other things that might be hard to acquire as a hermit.
