Finding Spindly Taproot

Is there a stratagy to finding it? My character has about 5 hours of play time and I really need some string.

Up your exploration, then wander in the forest :)

You'll also find nettles, they do the same

Learn foraging and increase your exploration. That's really all there is to it. Walk around a lot and explore further out to increase your chances.

Taproot is better, since you can't use nettles for a fishing line.

As for finding Taproot, just get foraging and you should find some. Boost your exploration for a better chance. Got mine up to 2 and it was almost everywhere. Survived of Taproot and Rat on a Stick for a bit, till I find a nice place to fish.

Fishing is the only place where nettles won't work for string. Later on, all your going to gather is the nettles and more or less ignore the taproots.

Hide straps are also frequently overlooked by new players, too. Got an extra dried hide or two laying around? Cut it up for string. Any dried hide, works, too, not just cow hide. (Ignore the tool tip. It hasn't been fixed in ages. :| ) It does require the skill "Leather Working", though. (Also does not work for fishing line.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

True. Nettles are coming more common to me, but a quick taproot is perfect for a broken fishing line.

Leatherworking might not be available to some people, as well hides can sometimes be rare. Personally, only kill a 2-3 rabbits so far... seen far more foxes and boars. :\
