Logging out without sleeping

Is this a bad idea? I know if you stole something you can be killed by a player but are you at risk with boars and bears too? I just saw a bear and nearly capped myself and then I realized my main wasn't sleeping.

When you log out, your character no longer exists in the world, even if you're sleeping. Someone sleeping in a bed just gives the bed a special graphic. Being summoned by a scent effectively logs your character in (not your account) so that you can be killed at will. Someone has posted how long a character remains logged in after being summoned, but I can't recall off the top of my head.

By remains logged in i assume you mean the time that they're still being showed as online on the kinlist after being killed via force summon. It's until their body decays to a skeleton.

This I don't know. I've played as a hermit or a very small group of friends and family, so someone else will have to answer that.

Rereading my previous post, I realized I didn't answer that very well. A better statement would be: If you have logged out of the game and aren't in combat when you logged out, you can't be killed (short of being force summoned as OP mentions).

Sleeping in a bed only has one benefit: It drains travel weariness over time.
