Newbie Safety

Postby b00paul » Thu Sep 22, 2011 3:42 am

Now I know there is very little I can do to make myself totally safe. Especially against more advanced players who can literally punch down my walls, but my question is this:

I am currently at the stage where I can build a palisade. This won't do much against people with the proper strength to punch down the wall or the person so determined they want to build a battering ram and force it down, but it should help in keeping me safer, especially from the other newbies walking around looking to steal. Should I build the entire palisade wall around my claim (with the wall inside of the claim) and then use the gate to get in/out OR should I build the entire wall with one hole for my hearth fire so I do not have to use the gate to get in/out. I am under the impression that I cannot make a one-way crossroads until I get a village claim.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but someone with vandalism can destroy a hearth fire, right?

What would be the best method of protecting myself with palisade type skills. I lack the skills/ability for brick walls. Should I just not build a palisade and keep my fence with the hole for the hearth fire? Which makes you have to have vandalism to enter?

Thanks in advanced

I would recommend making a separate account to be put ur key on an alt. Use the alt to open the door, walk out with main, close alt window. Use your HF to get back inside. You can destroy a hf with vandalism and it is very easy to destroy one.

Is it possible to have two ender clients open at once for the same account (separate characters)?

(I realize I could try this, but am currently not at my home computer)

If there is a claim, you have to have the black skills. It doesn't really matter what you build. That only dictates how much strength is needed (none for a fence, 25 for a HF w/ stone axe equipped, 500+ for a palisade w/ sledgehammer).

There are other things that it never hurts to keep on an alt or on your person when you log, either. Keep backup tools and armor, enough materials to replace a plow, meat grinder, or other objects that can "walk off", etc. Don't leave anything outside that might make it look like you have a lot of goods laying around, either.
