why am i not getting lp

when i do certain tasks i dont get lp. i was watching an lets play on you tube and every time he does any thing like chop a tree or make somthing he gets lp. can i turn this on some how, is it some sort of benifit or am i just crazy.

Is this your first time playing? Is it possible you did some of these tasks in a previous game, died, then "inherited" your older character's abilities? That could be one explanation, though I'm guessing that isnt the answer. Is it possible you are getting lp, but for some reason the little graphic and sound effect isn't working? I don't know, man, sorry.

It could be a video from a previous world. Currently, you only get LP for discovering most items for the first time and for studying curios.

That's a very old video. While the mechanics are still basically the same, you no longer gain LP from actions. This was changed in March of 2011.

You now get LP for discovering most items the first time and for studying curiosities.
