constructing a boat?

got boat building skill, but under build there is no construction option. i feel like i've overlooked something

You've probably not discovered boards. There's a discovery system in place which makes you need to acquire something firsthand before you can craft/build anything that requires it.

Have you discovered wood blocks and wood boards? As in you made them yourself and picked them up and got the discovery lp from them.

Discover all of the materials needed to make it and boats will appear in your options. Boards are probably the most missed item for new players
