We found a mineral node, now where do we put the hole?

Postby dda123 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 3:49 pm

The industrial guy in our village finally got his exploration up high enough to get rustroot and the second ping returned a nearby result.

My question is: Should we build our minehole right on the spot that says the mineral was found below? Or should we build to the side of that spot?

Basically, we're concerned that if we build the mine right on the metal node than the area below us that gets cleared out will remove a large chunk of the ore that we're trying to get. So would we have access to more of the metal vein by building the mine hole slightly to the side of the spot and then tunneling in that direction?

Thanks!

You're right, building right on top of the node destroys a big chunk of the ore.

The difficulty is in knowing which way to move it. Prospecting can be pretty vague as it can point to any tile in that node. I would go more than ten tiles. I'd do more like 20-30 or even up to half a minimap away (50 tiles) just to be sure if you're that worried about destroying ore. Why? I've seen copper, tin, and iron nodes that are at least half a minimap in size. (minimap = 125x125, http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Cartography) Of course, if the node is that big, is losing 25 (16, 36?) tiles out of 2-3k+ really that big an issue? (A: Only if you happen to land on a good quality node.)

Thanks for the replies guys! I think we'll drop our hole where we got the first ping, as that was maybe 30 or so tiles from the first spot we got a "hit" at.

Does it matter? These sorts of things aren't best mentioned though it's pretty easy to assume one of the three common metals.

Just build it a few tiles away from the site, to be safe and dig in that direction
