Stat requirements for mining lower levels.

Does anyone know the rough range of requirements for mining in L4 & L5?
Str & Pick Axe Quality?

It really just depends. Some L5 require ultra high strength with a very high q pick axe while some might just need a moderate strength amount. It very much depends where you are building the mine hole and what the system tell's you about the rock when you try to mine it.

I've heard that minimum hardness for a layer is 10*level and if that's the case then, say, for the deepest level, level 5, you'll need a q50 tool and 50 strength to mine the softest stones there. I don't know whether this is true or a rumor and I don't really have any means of testing this, sorry.

I understand that it varies from place to place. I was hoping to get a rough gauge on how far off I am. The wiki uses the term "mining ability" but doesn't quantify it in anyway or form. Has anyone dug to L4 - L5, been unable to mine, increased Pick Axe Q & Strength then overcome the threshold? and if so what was it? Or if anyone can very comfortable mine at L4 - L5 what stats do you currently have? ^^

Just get the highest quality pick you can and keep training up your strength. Reaching the minimum requirement isn't really the most optimal way to mine. Get your str and pick as high as you can and just test out the rock and hopefully you can cut through it like butter. Also do note that it is important to have a good Q pick AND high str, since the formula is the root of these two things multiplied together you get diminishing returns of having either your pick or your str significantly higher than it's partner.
IE, 50 and 50 gives you a mining ability of 50
50 and 100 gives you a mining ability of 70
50 and 200 gives you a mining ability of 100
50 and 400 gives you a mining ability of 141
In each of these examples I doubled what would likely be your strength while the pick stayed the same quality. Anyways, moral of the story is get the best pick you can and pair that with a good strength score.

158 mining ability can do everything? I thought it would have been higher.
200 Mining ability sounds good for speed mining though, I need to get down to L5 and play around and find these numbers for myself.
