How do I... twitch hunt?

I've been trying to kill some boars and foxes from shore by "twitch hunting".
I've read Sevenless' guide and he says to fire your sling just after the animal twitches. I'm doing it very quickly, but the animal still runs and it gets away in the forest.

Was twitch hunting considered a bug and fixed?

Am I just doing it wrong?

I know boars can break fences, is there another way I can trap them?

Maybe it's the lag, but if you shoot right after the animal twitches, it will not run away.

Bring him right to the water, and watch the animal, you will see . Also make sure you're in a boat

Did you cancel combat when the animal runs away? If you cancel it (at the animals avatar press the swords crossthingy), the animals will stop running from you.

Thanks for your responses, it could be the lag. I thought I was shooting fast enough, but I'll keep trying.

I never really got that technique (I think it might be way easier with multiple people, though). I usually jump out of the boat when they start running and try to punch them to death. I have gotten several boats stolen from me that way. Also, if you are a weak fighter, you risk being attacked by other animals, and if you are fighting an aggressive animal, it might de-aggro, run back to you and start fighting you again.

This has been around since W3 at a minimum and they still haven't fixed it haha.

If you mess up and the animal starts running, stay aimed at him, wait till it is out of aggro, and then shoot again. It'll run back to you or something like that I believe (it used to give you full LP for the kill which was another bug).
