Unless AI has been changed, you should be able to raid the hill before they generate enough attack for a second round. I've found 8 is the absolute minimum for three ants.

No, not since the start of the current world with the introduction of the curio system. You do get other products from hunting that make curios (other than just the bones).

40 UA and combat mechanics knowledge for hunting foxes
40 is high even for a newbie to the system. A vet can do it with 25. Think I pulled off my first "successful" fox kill at 30. I already had some idea of what I needed to do, but wasn't as familiar with what should be hotkeyed and what commands I should have memorized. (This was in the vanilla client, fyi.)
Honestly, the easy way to kill foxes is to fence them in and shoot them. You have to build a roundpole fence, though. Construction signs won't cut it unless you want to run for your life. Start with the signs just to get it penned, but then go and take them down and build up fence sections. It won't break the signs until it goes agressive. 10 MM is enough, but it'll be a bit slow. It'll only take a few solid hits to kill the fox.
