Tracking stolen items

Postby screwbag » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:10 am

For tracking stolen items, are there any situations that wouldn't allow tracking?

Like if food is stolen and consumed...the object no longer exists right?

Can objects be hidden to the point of being untrackable? I heard rumor of in a boat in a cellar is untraceable etc...
if this is semi classified info just pm me... Thanks!

If the item is consumed or destroyed then you can't track the item, only the thief. If the item is on an altvault then you can track it but cannot summon for it back.
There are no other scenarios in which the item is untrackable as long as you have scents, event if it's in a cave, cellar, boat, cart, minehole, or any combination therein.

A hearthless altvault would be untrackable. I think that materials placed in construction signs might be untraceable.

Other possible situations I haven't tried: in a barter/vending stand, in a house that doesn't exist, on a table, in a kiln/smelter/finery forge/oven, in an alternate world, in a seed bag, on the ground.

by "HEARTHLESS ALTVAULT" u mean a hearthling that has no hearthfire..and storing those stolen items in that said "hearthling without hearthfire" will deem those said to be stolen items untraceable?

and for how long will u stored those stolen items to wear off scents longevity?

Yes, and wait as long as a theft scent lasts.

ok. ty.

follow on question: storing those scents into your bag or any other storage items such as cupboards ect..will still deteriorate or be lost in a given amount of time..or will it stay effective once used?

They'll still deteriorate normally even if stored.

W2 loftar made a test world to see what procedural generation would look like. Unfortunately for me, I never got to see it, but there were a few crossroads that led to it. There may have been other worlds that existed on the same server, but there was no known way to get to them (and if they did exist, I didn't know it).
