I think it's well known but I didn't saw it here. so I will write this anyway.
You can place empty signpost by placing it and moving to another position simultaneously. It requires some luck (or lag), but you can success more often if you practice.

Probably in here somewhere, but you can build most structures underground. This has an added advantage of preventing decay.

In addition to that, this is easiest on the slowest speed setting.

if you lift a boiling cauldron when u are done it will stop boiling and saves the water
