Means my time was wasted right? No warning at all.... super.

Well, that was fun. I need to go search for 20 pieces of wax again.

Right. You can keep trying, maybe whoever is down there will move whatever is blocking you. Also, if it is built from the top level, you could have explored underneath via cave beforehand.

I've explored the cave that is probably below me, but I can't see my ladders. I'm supposed to be able to see the ladders, aren't I?

Point of curiosity: If the ladder to your built mine hole is over an area that hasn't been mined in the cave system below, will this message still show up or does it clear an area for you to go down into?

Very interesting... I'm having that same problem, you see. But I'm actually building a mine hole from inside a cave. Now I'm really curious as to what's below my "what I thought was secret" underground lair.
