How the hell do you make a torch?! ive tried all kinds of things!I know how to make a torch post,just not a torch!

To make a torch you have to discover linen cloth first which will not be available to new players for a long time (requires some farming and weaving). Instead of making torches simply turn off the light effects in Ender's client (ctrl + n). Much better for your eyes. ;p

Edit: alternatively you could make new characters and let them spawn at your main character's HF. I think every new character can pick up a torch from that starter chest.

you can also shift click your starter shirt and pants to unequip them and discover linen that way. the things enabled with the custom clients are awesome and will give you a HUGE advantage over someone not using it. getting rid of darkness, not having to see the little green bushes that can sometimes hide foragables; even the options to not see rocks, trees, and buildings. its almost like cheating, but its ok with the people who made the game.

Still doesn't give you the linen cloth you need to make a torch with which is produced on a loom (needs Basic Mechanics) and farming (for plant fibres from hemp or flax).

yea don't know why but you can make a torch with a shirt or pants...if not for the nightvision feature I'd expect to see way more naked noobs running around

Pretty easy to get nettle shirt and pants. I've usually dumped my cloth clothes within 30 minutes of starting a new character in the wilderness.

Its not like cheating at all. Those are features that should have been implemented into the default client from the start imo. Well, besides the night vision...
