Chicken Coop...

Postby chrisnorcras » Tue Oct 18, 2011 9:11 pm

Is it possible for chickens/cocks to die in the chicken coops? I have a coop and had several chickens and two cocks in it as well as 5 chicks. The fodder level was low, but not empty yet. When I looked in it after I logged on this time, all except one chicken and one cock and all the chicks were dead. I thought maybe it was a griefer, but nothing else in my claim had been touched and the strangled chickens were still in the coop. I turned on tracking and couldn't find anything either... Any ideas?

Yes, chickens can die from hunger while in the coop.
When this happens the quality of the corpse is equal to half the quality of alive chicken. So if the corpses are of lower quality - they died from hunger. If they are same quality - someone killed them

if you have to be offline for a while try stashing a few chicks in a cupboard. everyone says they'll die, but I've had some in a cupboard for over a week and they're still alive. if you're online and you notice your fodder level is low, add more...if quality isn't important to you I've recently found(by accident) that you can feed chickens with elm boughs, haven't tested spruce but those may work also.

so if you hate farming(probably why you have no fodder) try growing a few elm trees near your coops just in case.

They will die and they continue to lose quality as long as they don't eat fodder. I'm not sure anyone has said how long it takes them to die from starvation, though. I've never tested it. As far as I care, it's not really worth the time to.

From my experience, chickens won't die in a coop from starvation until all the fodder is gone. Also, only one cock is enough to breed with. A second one can mess up quality gains.
