Avoiding cave-ins?

Hi i was just wondering if anyone could explain how i can easily avoid cave-ins even if it requires putting up more supports then really needed, just to follow until i get the hang of it? finishing my mine as i type this and would prefer not to kill myself in the first five minutes.

There is no guaranteed way to avoid cave-ins. Follow the mining guides for minimizing the risk. That's all the information there is, nobody is hiding anything. Wear a miner's helmet to decrease damage (by half) if there is a cave-in.

There are no skills need for mining, just strength. Lots and lots of strength. The deeper you go, the more you need.
