How do we get rid of boulders?

AS the title says....

Just out of curiosity and out of laziness to move boulders out of my village...

Ive tried "destroy" using sledgehammer and pickaxe, stoneaxe...to no avail.
Thought of changing to runestone and then destroy yeah it does work..but lol...it takes more time than actually moving it out.

Any of you guys know other quicker means or is it impossible to directly destroy boulders?

Chip them 100 times for stone and they disappear.

It would destroy them.

Haven't tried it, but you can load boulders into a cart, so I assume a boat. Would taking the boat out and destroying it cause the boulders to sink or float?

They would float. Everything that falls out of a broken boat floats. Just lift the boulders or most other liftables and walk into shallows, log off, and they'll be destroyed. Logs can be destroyed like this too, logs only float if they're chopped down. I'm not sure if boats are destroyed like this though? I've never tried it.

This raises many questions, like what happens if you're in a boat while carrying a boat, and someone goes up to you and either

A. Destroys your boat and you drown
B. Shoots you while you're in your boat
