Water Quality

Postby LuckyDuck69 » Sun Oct 23, 2011 11:31 pm

Hi,
I was just wondering about details on getting better water quality.

1. Can two different spots where you place wells on that are right next to each other be of a completely different q?
By spots I mean the red squares that show up when using a dowsing rod (might only be like this with with enders) that you place wells on

2. Does checking water quality with a bucket give the same result as a well?

3. And anything else that would be helpful in my quest for high q?

thanks in advance :)

the red spots aren't the places you can put a well, follow the pie slice(wide end) it gives you a general direction for closest water to you. as far as quality I'm still stuck using q10 so not sure :x

using a bucket is the simplest way to get water(even if its from a well) so yes you'll always get the right quality no matter how you test

as far as tips, check everywhere you go, even if you're out hunting or fishing...hasn't worked for me yet but maybe you'll have better luck

From my quests for water, it seems to have quality nodes much like everything else. I have a number of Q10 wells, then I found a Q26 well and a Q32 well a few tiles away.

As long as the dowsing rod is equipped, the spot actually looks like a puddle of water. I believe it will show up with a red square overlaid on it in Ender's. (Been a while so I'm going on memory and too busy to check at the moment.)

No seems about it. That is 100% correct. ;)

building wells in search of a node can be a very laborious and unproductive activity if you are nowhere near a node, nodes for water are like other things, you could be in a water hot spot or not, more likely not (but you never know)

i found the easiest way is, when you are on rivers (in a boat) carrying a water flask, empty it and fill it from the river/lake every few screens, if you see anything above Q10 - lower your empty/fill pattern to every few squares to try to work out where the higher q is and hopefully find the centre tile(or tiles) where the water is highest quality in that area,, hopefully this spot is within a reasonable boat journey of home, in which case remember where it is, go home empty your boat of the 2 boxes of flotsams (or whatever) and put in 2 barrels, take bucket with you and return to your found spot, and fill barrels, and repeat. dont bother alt-claiming a river unless you want to tell everyone that a high q water spot is there.

if the q appears to increase but you are stopped by land, then it may be worth attempting to follow the higher quality with dowsing on land to see if a nice well exists there.
hope this helps

Yeah, I do much like bogbrush but I carry a bucket for that and try to keep my waterskin with good Q water, and when I do find decent water, make a mark of it on my map if it beats what I've found so far. Downside being you waste 4 spaces on a bucket, but if you really need the spaces you can just drop the bucket and use the waterskin/flask.

Always, always, always carry a bucket if not 2 imo. The difference between 2/3 lites and 12/13 lites can be the difference between life and death. Also when you do find high q water carry some on you for drinking.
