Do Characters Get Out of Bed While Logged Out?

I walked in on a sleeping character several times. The first time, I saw a head on the pillow. The last time, the bed appeared empty. When the sleeper finally logged in, his weariness was totally gone. Did he in effect "get out of bed" when no longer weary, and is this intended behaviour?
