When to get Yeomanry

Postby Monohan » Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:13 pm

Hi, I am brand new to this game. I managed to play one full day before the end of World 5 so I didn't have much time to learn many things. I've been reading the forums and wiki page and was wondering at what point should I get yeomanry. I may have rushed things a bit, but I have already built a log cabin and was wondering if I should learn yeomanry before skills such as mining and leather working?

I should add, that while I was working around my camp a guy came and stole some items from my crates right in front of me and there was nothing I could do.

Before mining obviously. No point on getting leather-working either if your stuff is going to get stolen. Get it ASAP.

Thanks, another quick question. How do I move my HF? Can this only be done once I have learned Yeomanry?

to better answer your original question, as soon as possible. later in life(game life that is) people will still be able to just walk up and steal from you while all you can do is look if you don't properly plan ahead. for now almost noone has made the 50k lp needed for tresspassing/theft so you'll probably be safe with just a claim, then later a claim and roundpole fence...until people actually start getting the skills needed to successfully rob someone.

you can build a new hf with branches and a dream. you can build it from the beginning even if you haven't discovered dreams(1 of the 2 exclusions I've found to discovery) so if you don't have hearth magic yet you can ask someone who does...

You might wanna play under the impression that people DO have skills like that, and say screw the fence and get a palisade up.

Palisade is relatively easy and should be fairly secure for the first few weeks. Anyone going the black skills route likely has most of the basics (rage, trepass, theft) in already. They might not have much else, but they can and will count on most of the smaller communities and hermits not having anyone with rage, and being unable to do much besides stand there all pissed off.

Don't even go with the impression that people grind up for these skills. People DO grind these skills at the detriment to all else. Rage is easily obtainable in 24 hrs, theft and vandalism about a day or two more than that for each one. It's not hard to obtain enough curios to feed alts to do this, either, especially if you can multi-client and leave the alt account logged in so you can push your peaceful/change sliders to max as soon as capable on the server.
