Palisade vs Cliffs as Walls

Postby trondaron » Fri Oct 28, 2011 3:40 pm

I know there are various (fixed?) wall/cliff jump techniques. I'm too noob to know what they are. My questions is basically can I count a cliff as a wall, the same as a palisade? I'm building it (I hope) so no one can squeeze through, but is one or the other more vulnerable?

Besides filling my base area with unbuilt signs or other unsightly things is it possible to prevent wall jumping? How do I secure my base!

Thanks for the attention fellas.

This means cliff is weaker security than a palisade? I know I'm being insistent.

I know people always say it is, not sure why but i just take their word for it, some people go as far to pali around cliffs rather then end their wall at them.

When it comes to security, I wouldn't take my chances.

The first time they fixed the "wall jump" bug was about a year ago if I recall right. Funny thing is... it keeps popping back up every once in a while.

What's a wall jump bug? Using existing items or structures to magically teleport yourself over a wall, cliff, or other normally unpassable object. With cliffs, there was one particular bug that ONLY worked with cliffs. The server can 'see' walls as such, but it might not see cliffs as anything as ordinary terrain. Thus, it didn't work with walls. Walls needed more 'complex' techniques like using crossroads or charter stones to jump over. Charter stones were just removed because they are the last known way to abuse this. However, these bugs have popped back up again as changes were made to the server and there's always a chance they'll pop back up again.

You can't make a very good seal with cliff/wall transitions. IE: there are usually holes that someone could squeeze through, and cliffs in general are a bit easier to wall-jump.

But you CAN seal them. The problem with cliffs as walls is as noted above, not this minor issue.

Another thing nobody has even mentioned: you need twice the leather and bone glue to build a palisade using a cliff as a wall (assuming you want a gate in your palisade). This makes it even harder to build properly so that a gate will line up, and if you do get the gate fine, you need even more glue and leather to make sure the corners at the cliff are properly enclosed. (I've never tried this, but from a few of the complaints I've heard on the forums, you can screw it up so you can't build a gate.)

Even those aren't secure. They're just designed in a way to be as annoying as possible to destroy so that nobody will even bother.
