Is there anyway atal to get through a hearth fire in front of an entrance etc

You need vandalism, and at least 25 STR. If it's your own hearthfire, you can walk right through it.

if you claim the land you won't need vandalism, but you'll still need 25 strength if you're using a stone axe...I'd suggest the 2nd drinking buff and lots of water.
