How do I mine?

I searched the wiki and also the forum, so don't tell me to do that. I know the whole "50 tiles from cave entrance" thing also. I tried going deeper into the cave and mining but to no avail. How would I be able to make this work? More strength? YES I DO HAVE THE MINING SKILL!!

Mining is an extremely basic task and you don't really mention specifically what problems you're running into. "To no avail" doesn't really help us troubleshoot the problem very much. You enter a cave, walk around a bit, click "mine", and then click on a wall. You'll either start mining or be presented with a "that wall is too hard" message at which point the solution to your problem is simply "get more strength".

Thank you for providing something of use. I need more strength then. How much is required for mining in a cave or does it vary?

It completely varies and I haven't mined recently enough to remember any range of numbers. You should probably be able to find some mineable walls at 25-30 but 50+ would be a good idea before starting. Also the message relayed when attempting to mine should give you an idea of how much more strength you'll need.

wow I mined my first ore this server with 10 strength and a q5 stone axe...hardness in mines/caves is in nodes just like everything else.

as for your exact link: please ask simple questions here start at that post in the thread you should have asked this question and work from there, its a nice discussion not only on mining, but on actually finding ore.

OP: you obviously didn't read the wiki because it says right on the mining page (from hardest to softest):

Messages that occur while mining (each message means 10-15 more Mining ability to mine):

You dont even manage to scratch that rock.
That rock is very too much hard for you to mine.
That rock is too much hard for you to mine.
That rock is slightly too much hard for you to mine.
That rock is little too hard for you to mine.

Using a better quality tool and better strength means more tiles to mine available. Strength can be increased by equipment such as a Bear Tooth Talisman or Bear Cape or temporarily with buffs from wine or Boar Tusk Snuff.

Mining Ability = square root ( Str * tool quality)

Make sure to use the RoB wiki, and not wikia. There's a lot of changes that have occurred since that was last actively updated.
