You need a hook, either from bone or metal.

No problem. One more thing...

While you can catch more than one fish using a lure, there's a chance you can lose it. I recommend using bait like worms or leeches instead. I find that you catch fish a lot faster.

But with lures you can afk-fish on your alt while doing other stuff with your main :)

(Just fyi to add to this you need to make another account, to have them both logged in at the same time. Not just another character, saves you from having to ask another question)

SO I found out how to attach items to my fishing pole. So far i attached the taproot already, but I got stuck on the bone. I read, to craft a bone hook, it's supposed to be under Crafts > Tools > Fishing Equipment > Bone Hook. There though, I only find Fishing Pole. Any skill I need to unlock the Bone Hook craft? Any detailed help appreciated :)

To expand a bit more on it: you can get fresh bait faster than even catching fish on a lure. You can use leeches (gained while trying to catch those dragonflies), worms (dug up while tree planting), and intestines (from all those animals that get butchered). The faster you're done fishing, the less likely you're going to get waylaid by the local raiders. The less likely you are to get waylaid, the happier you will be. Thus, using bait makes you happy. :)

Also, when fishing with lures, you can lose your hook or string. Bringing all that backup is just a pain.

To make a hook: Need the fishing skill (needed to make the pole) and you need to have discovered a bone yourself. looting one or getting one from a friend doesn't work.

Lure fishing should only ever be done on an alt. It takes seconds to get the LP required, and there's no skills involved in catching fish at all. Typically I'll semi afk an alt (with music on so I can hear the fishing music) and get a chest or two of fish after an hour or so. Better quality lures make it a much faster process (but by no means would it ever be described as anything other than slow in general). Always bring at least two of each breakable item.
