Combat questions

What is the formula for punch damage?
What is the formula for sword damage?
Why use Unarmed over Melee?

I apologize if the first two formulas are on the wiki, I can't find them.

Punch: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Unarmed_Combat

Note: there was a 3/4 weight added to punch for damage and offense and the wiki hasn't had the information changed

Weapons: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Weapons Base damage* sqrt(sqrt(Quality*Strength)/10)

Why used unarmed over melee? Unarmed has a 30% (again, if I recall correctly) penetration. Meaning... if you hit someone for 100 damage, 30 of it automatically goes to SHP and the rest goes to armor if any is equipped (else goes to SHP, too).
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Punch damage is 50 * sqrt(str / 10)

Does the Unarmed Combat skill not factor into it whatsoever?

The 3/4 modifier was added solely to the damage (I had someone verify), and it's noted on the Combat Actions page (direct me to any out of date pages which need to be updated and I will)

I advise you take a look at one of the combat guides (here and here). Your Unarmed Combat stat is relevant to your offensive and defensive weights (in most circumstances that is). You need to have a firm grasp of the combat systems before you understand why UAC is not factored into the formula for actual damage

Thanks. I'll try to remember that one. Seems like it was noted as 3/4 weight in game and not damage at one point (might have been fixed or misread) and were reports running around that both weight and damage had been nerfed.

Effectively, then: 37.5 * sqrt (str / 10)

Punches weight is also 3/4. Tested it many times. (in world 5, my sting with a 375 melee combat skill did more to my friends defense then my 400 UA punch did, both are listed as having weight = to their respective stats).

The reason most use unarmed over melee combat is because unarmed has the advantage of being able to use a maneuver other then shield, and has an attack that doesn't take IP. Melee combat is viable but it's harder to use then unarmed is (I like it better though :))

It doesn't matter if the information said is accurate or not. When we go ahead and record the cooldown times on all the moves, we can test this as well for verified answers.

I recall a while back that loftar said that flex has 4500 ticks and slide has 5500 ticks in terms of cooldown (it used to be slower).
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

Once we get around to it we're filling in all the base cooldown information on this page
