In a straight-up fight, you will want 40 unarmed or melee.

For a ranged marksmanship fight you can do it with 10 MM and a Q 10 sling.

If you have around 25-30 unarmed or melee, you can probably kill it by calling down the thunder from a boat for 26 IP, using opportunity knocks 4 times to reduce it's defense bar to 0, then valorous strike (or knock it's teeth out) it once and it will die.
Of another era.

It's possible with lower too (i did it with 22 UA without calling thunder from a boat, it took 20 mins). Agi plays a part in it too

Also, I'd recommend 50~ UAC.

First, use charge to gain 6 ip with Death or Glory maneuver.

Then, switch to Flex and Oak Stance to rebuild DEF. Once 100~ DEF and 70+ Attack, switch to Dodge and use punch. You should bring the fox's DEF down to around 20. After you punch, use Flex or Jump while on Combat Meditation to rebuild to 50~ Attack, then punch again. You should hit. Repeat based on your DEF loss and your ATT needs. Please note that it is harder to run from fox due to the fact that they run at run speed, so make sure to have water and a place to run into(a boat, a house, etc.).
My son, walk not in the way unarmed; because thou knowest not when thy enemy shall come upon thee.

Feel free to report anyone that's being distracting, trolling, or in general railroading a How Do I? topic. The mods are pretty quick with bans on it here and the Bugs section.

If you have Oak Stance and the other combat skills, you can pull off your first fox melee kill with about 25-30 UA or MC (think a bit less on MC, but never tested it). Also, for those not used to the combat system or having lag issues, avoid Death or Glory. A bad lag spike can leave you with no defense left or even unconscious/dead. Once you get the hang of the combat system, it's a very powerful way to generate IP quickly.

More for MC because sting has a longer cooldown then punch. Killing animals with MC is kind of challenging =s

Since the fox will attack you once and rape your def when low uac, you don't want 2 moves which lower your def.
Also, rage is best used to gain some attack. So in this case it's useless since you are full.
I prefer to use dash + DoG. Dash gives some defense, and an IP (but it's a bit longer).

So dash + death or glory. If your def goes below 20%, switch DoG for Oak Stance... until you have 6 IP.
Then flex/dash + oak stance to regen def.
Then flex + bloodlust when the creature has lower than 70% attack, and punch when you are nearly full attack.
Then i recommend to have a sword and some mc to kill the creature in one hit with sting for exemple.

In my opinions, boars are easier to kill than fox early game.
Just make sure you're full stamina, and run speed, snipe them with a sling from a boat until they flee. When they do, just run to them and punch them to death.
Advanced : gather 2 IP with call down the thunder, make them flee, with your sling, and one hit them with sting when they run.

preferably you do that in a shallow aswell, so you use a move, hide in the water until the cooldown is over and use the next move

i would prefer 6ip as for knocking teeth out, only a few newbies have a devent melee-weapon, but they can always do this

There are multiple ways to kill a fox. I was stating the way I do it, normally with 25~ UAC(For noobs who don't understand combat, get 50~, as you may need to tank it when you are running, it'll 1-shot your DEF with anything lower than 40.), and kill it within 2-5 minutes.
