Can I make this jump?

Postby kobnach » Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:59 pm

If I understand correctly, one can always jump to one's hearth fire, even if it would put one over max travel weariness, but one cannot do the same for any other jump - to RoB, to one's village idol, etc., except perhaps if one has no hearth fire.

So, suppose one has a character with his hearth far from his village idol. Walking from hearth to idol is impractical for some reason. He happens to have logged out in his village just before the new travel system.

How can one determine whether the character will be able to jump from hearth back to village? (Presume he has a bed at his hearth, and a ton of beer - or can bring that with him when he jumps from the village to his hearth. So what I want to know, in advance, is whether he can make the jump back _when he has no travel weariness at all_.)

It should be possible to determine this before making that jump to the hearth fire, IMNSHO. But is it?

one can always log in to one's hearthfire. if you try to jump using a>e>h it would either allow it or say you are too tired.

You're at the village now, right? And you want to know that if you go to your hearth, you'll be able to return? This is easy.

What you said is true, you can return to your hearth fire at any time regardless of travel weariness. However, this is only possible by logging out and logging back in using the "at your hearth" option. Essentially, if your character can jump to your hearth, you'll be able to jump back as well. The only case in which you'll be able to reach your hearth without being able to get back is if you log in at the hearth to begin with. Then it's theoretically possible that you didn't have enough to make the trip to begin with, but that your inability is overridden by logging on at your hearth.

Great, thank you. I'll just feed him a few more bagels, gather up bed materials, and try the jump.

I quick travel to my hearth a lot (nearly 2 supergrids from my village) with full TW in game all the time. I don't think this will work.

I did the experiment last night. He jumped to his hearth in game (i.e. didn't log in at hearth), and arrived with max travel weariness. He drank beer to eliminate the travel weariness, and was unable to jump back. Fortunately he was able to jump to the ROB, where he was met with more beer. He got back to his village extremely overstuffed, and spent the rest of the evening plowing, before collapsing into a bed.

Bottom line - you don't get any kind of warning when you try to jump to a hearth that's too far to get back from.
