Game going slow

Postby ssoalreaver » Sat Nov 19, 2011 10:15 am

I just bought a new laptop, and it is runnig haven and hearth slow. the specifications:

AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350
AMD Radeon HD 6310
6GB DDR3 Memory
500 GB HDD

Using Catalyst 11.10 as driver.

i don't think it's a slow laptop, well, i think it should run a game like haven and hearth fine. anyone have an idea why it is slow? (and it can't be a virus or anything because i just bought it =/).

I'm working on a theory about some of the Catalyst settings and OpenGL (specifically how it effects HnH). You might want to try playing with some of the settings. I've not come up with anything concrete yet.

Could you describe exactly what's slow? Low FPS? Resource loading problems? Stutters more than it was doing? What client(s) have you used?

HnH is poorly optimized as it stands. Given the specs, it should, in theory, be able to run on a fast P3 w/ 1GB RAM. I wouldn't try it, though.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I too love AMD. I personally think theyvare the best to use for most games. However, even with newer akd products, the part the wont fix is opengl. Obviously, HnH runs in java. Java uses opengl to render the graphics. However, amd's graphics do not support opengl too well. It supports it so it can be used but it doesnt provide a good quality outcome. For java/opengl games, nvidia is the way to go. Intel graphics.... Might as well stay with browserbased games.

I wonder what you mean with slow HnH too...

Using an older ATI Radeon 2100 Graphics (740G chipset) with shared memory on 1920x1200 and the only thing that slows down HnH for me is my low 3G connection...

New laptop... Have you replaced the graphics drivers yet? The ones ati cards ship with are complete crap and will ruin your life for many games.

With slow I mean low FPS, it can't be my internet or network card because they're both good. And I had replaced the standard drivers with Catalyst 11.10 or something.

DxDiag says version 8.901.2.0

ATI Display Adapter 0x9802
Internal DAC 400 mhz
