How to create a map

Postby Nostur » Sun Nov 20, 2011 2:21 pm

I've been trying to find any tools that are capable of putting map tiles together (honestly, it's not that hard with an easy script) but I could'nt find any, yet so many people here on forums seem to have something like that when they post maps. So my question is, how the hell can you generate a map from the map tiles saved on your computer? Any help is really appreciated, thank you.

In ender client map folder there is an html file called map.html.
Launch it and it will show you your last session map.

The easiest way to have a map of your area, is to go around, and discover the more tiles you can in one session. (there is a also a file called currentSession.js, this file deserves to define the session you'll be able to see with map.html).

Else, people usually use algeralith map : http://www.algeralith.info/HavenMap/

Or make their own.

That's the current world.

Just a heads up: stitching the maps together isn't as easy as you think. The avatar's starting point is a random position every time there's a session change. Walking in and out of a house or a cave or teleporting to another position counts as a sessions change. If you merely try to connect the maps from Session A and Session B together, they won't line up properly. You need to program an algorithm that does image matching for it to work properly.

Thank you all, but how can I find myself on the large map ? Do I have to look by myself and try to find something that looks familiar, or can I use some system of coordinates ?

If you can find the edge of the map, it makes it easier. Otherwise, you just have to look for identifying landmarks such as lakes, convergence of rivers, or clusters of mudflats or grasslands, etc. If you can get a large session map such as in Ender's, it makes it easier to spot by matching up areas.
