Does forge prayer act as a discovery?

Postby Panlannan » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:06 pm

Hello all, relative newbie here. Ive got my palisaded house and farm going well and looked into metal production on the wiki.

Needless to say getting metal as a new player is realtively difficult. One way I saw of getting metal was by the use of the Forge prayer, which would give me enough metal or at least let me make a pickaxe.

"Forge Prayer, 10NP: gives you a metal nugget, chosen at random from Cast Iron, Tin or Copper, at a quality that is the same as the amount of Numen points available to the character, but soft-capped by the ancestor's Strength and Smithing levels."

Source: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Worship

I figured getting 10 numen points was easier than training strength, finding and building a mine, then going through the dangerous and time consuming procedure of mining out the ore.

But my question to you is this, do nuggets gained by the use of this prayer grant the discovery for that nugget?
if not, then my plan will not work, as I will be able to do nothing with my metal :(.

TLDR: does forge prayer give a discovery of its relavent metal nugget?

You're looking at outdated information. "Mining" was changed dramatically between W3 and W4. Now metal ores are able to be found in any old cave system. It's pretty easy to find metal as a new/single player nowadays.

Nobody has verified, you can if you would want to. I'm also going to disagree that getting 10 numen (you are also probably full change, which only has a 1/3 chance of gaining 1 numen per sacrifice) a minimum of 110 times is easier than making your own minehole. Out of the two options, this is harder.

If you still don't want to go through the hassle of getting your own metal for a pickaxe (why do you want one anyways if you aren't going to mine?): Trade. Get a village idol up and trade with someone. Just check out the Apples for Oranges forum.

For discovering metal: barter stands. Barter stands can be created and used to give easy discoveries as long as you have possession of the item.

Hope this helps!

@cobaltjones
On further googling yes, I was looking at an older wiki. Im going to have to buy more ranks in exploration and find more rustroot! and then learn to prospect as well

@apocalypseplease
I am full change, and whereas going full tradition is not impossible, its incredibly boring and counter productive. Considering the options the best thing I can do is get some nice forage-ables (driftwood or pearls), then simply buy my metal.

Thank you both for prompt and informative responses. I will still attempt to gain numen wherever possible (if easy to get items come up in the sacrafice screen), and who knows I may yet nust this myth, but its not of critical importance

Rustroot isn't really even required for finding small amounts of metal (although it's ideal for later game when you're looking for high quality deposits on the lower levels).

Simply work in getting your strength up while looking around for any open caves. People like to claim them but they're fairly common and you should be able to find something. Once inside the cave simply try your hand at mining the various walls within. If you're lucky you'll start finding some ore.

I have seen some caves on my journeys foraging. I plan to start hunting boars and bears soon so the bear cape and necklace should help with that, as well as munching down piles of tasty boar and bear meat. Bear in mind (no pun intended) I have only been playing for 4 days, and so im still finding my feet. Apologies for any abject stupidity present in this thread on my behalf.

You're on the right wiki; Ring of Brodgar is the correct one. The wikia one is outdated and terrible.
