Combat Recommendation [Newbie]

Postby aikidragon » Sun Nov 27, 2011 4:40 pm

Hello.

I'm a pretty new player to HnH. I'm asking, as a new player should i go for marksman or unarmed? I was told that unarmed is better for new players.
Also what gear/Unarmed Combat Skill/Base Attributes do i need to get a fox killed?

Thank you.

You should probably get a bit of marksmanship anyways so you can kill bears easier. But anyways, to kill a fox for ur first time i would recommend around 35-40 UA (some will argue it's a bit much), and some leather gear. Once you get the hang of combat is possible to kill a fox with around 20-25 UA though. GL

A shield only matters if you're using the maneuver shield (which uses ur melee combat as defensive weight instead of UA). You should maybe give dataslycer's combat guide a read before you try fighting anything if you haven't already ;)

if you put a fence around a fox you can kill it with 1 marksmanship and a quality 1 sling...will take you forever but you won't take any damage. higher marksmanship and better quality sling means aiming faster and doing more damage. using sign posts(such as fires) you can box any nonaggresive animal next to a river and kill it from a boat with your sling, aggresive animals will kill you if you try, and don't forget deer heal themselves while auroch and mouflons fight in herds, so try to box 1 alone and don't try a deer til you're pretty good.

also whoever told you unarmed was best as a noob told you a lie. you can kill a bear your first day with alot of patience with hunting/marksmanship, will take you some time to get the skills to fight anything that fights back using unarmed. good luck

This isn't true. Foxes break objects obstructing their pathway and at 1 mm the fox will break more of your aim bar than you'll gain while aiming at it.

Unarmed is damned handy to know how to do and considerably faster and more convenient for taking down animals and players but it does take a bit of time to get used to. Marksmanship is considered the easiest skill to use to kill large game if you have access to bodies of water and a lot of time to kill.

That has been changed. They can now. I'm not sure when it was changed, though.

As far as killing a fox in melee combat: The UA/MC needed is very dependent on what combat skills you have purchased. If you just have Unarmed Combat, then you're going to need that 40 UA. If you have all of the skills, you can probably do it at 25-30, even if it's the first time you've used the system. Just hotkey Oak Stance and if you start getting low on defense (below say 60-70%, lower as you get used to things), make sure to turn it on. You can use bloodlust and other combat maneuvers the same way--powerful tools when used properly, get you killed when mistimed.

I argue that its way too much. Newbies need the testicular fortitude to charge em with 25. :|

Agreed, you can do it with 15 UA and base 10 stats - with all combat moves. It does take some time if you don't want to get hit though. Man up and fight that fox!
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.
