Mining in caves - strength / Bees wax

Postby Nostur » Sun Nov 27, 2011 6:05 pm

Hello, I have a question. I have two caves nearby my place, but I always get the too hard messages. My str with bear cape is 63, and I did'nt found a single spot where i could mine. What strength value I need at least to mine something ?

Which brings me to my second question , I have ore deposit right undery my settlement, so I set up a bee hive but after a week of IRL time, I still did not get any bees wax, only honey. What am I doing wrong?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Mining Ability = sqrt(Str*Tool quality)

So if Hardness = 30 then your Str*Tool quality needs to equal 900. So if your stone axe quality is q10, then you'll need 90 Strength to mine the walls.

Bee hives generate more honey and wax the more crops Growing in their radius. Not fully grown crops, crops that are growing. So your fields must be regularly harvested and replanted. Also, right click them to get the option to harvest wax.

Yea I know all that from wiki, I farm around 40 crops around it regularly, but no bees wax yet, it's really killing me. Plus can I craft a higher Q stone axe? From what I read its not possible :/

to craft an axe you need a stone and a branche.

if you have an high q stone and an high q branches..of course you can. XD

High q stones can be found in caves spots or on mountain terrains, they are like the clay spots.

Grow higher quality trees if you can't mine higher quality stone yet.

To find high q stone (main place mountains) try dig around like u would in aces clay till u find a node but bewared some people claim high qmstone nodes when u find 1 if it's q11 keep digging up or which ever way u went until it's starts to go down again

You could also ram a line of boar tusk snuff up your nose. I have yet to find another use for it other than making that last push thru a spot that's difficult to mine based on current str stat. It gives you a little edge, depending on it's q. The only downside is that it lasts only about 6 seconds, once you get up to the wall and start mining it. You can also snort it while you are mining.

Also, drinking wine and tea, in combination with tobacco while mining helps out too. I would actually drink the tea and wine and smoke tobacco before I started mining, just to have that added str boost for when you find the walls you can bust thru.

tea and tobacco have no effect on mining(except of course tea reflling stam, though carrying enough tea to use for stam is a crazy delusion)

using wine/beer is a good idea, +10 from 1 glass, +15 from a few more, but as stated earlier in this thread, best way to improve mining ability is by improving tool quality. since you have 60ish str with your bear cape I'll give you some math:

60 strength and 10 axe gives you a mining ability of 24
70 strength and 10 axe gives you a mining ability of 26
60 strength and 15 axe gives you a mining ability of 30

15 isn't much for a stone axe, if you can find a stone node, even using a q10 branch you can easilly get a 30+ axe and that should help alot with your mining. also hardness is in nodes, pay attention to what it says when trying to mine, if you can't scratch it you're way lower, if its just a little too hard a better tool will definitely get you through it.

Alright then, I'll go to the nearest mountain and try to find higher Q stone. Also I already planted a few trees on high Q soil so I hope for some high Q wood input in some time when they grow.

Also (@IamAwesome): I know, Iam always running through the whole cave like idiot trying to find the softest spot so I can return there later :)

the quality of the soil you plant trees on doesn't matter, only the quality you used when filling planter's pot(along with water seed pot and table quality)

and maybe I was just really lucky, I found my first ore this world with 10 strength and a quality 5 stone axe
