Because you're digging on a q10 node. You'll have to find a higher quality node so you can dig more of it. To find a higher node you pretty much just have to check the quality of the clay every couple of minimaps.

q10 node can give more than 1 clay. Simply you're NOT on a NODE. large area with no node can gift 1 clay each *insert here the amount of time needed to recharge* but that's no a node.

A node is where there is lots of clay. The q of the clay depend on the q of the node. The center of the node have his max q, but of course if his max q is 10, all the node area will be 10.

And to add to this information, a good way to find nodes is to just go around from clay to clay until you find one. Clay that isn't a node will give only 1 clay and cannot be transformed into a node, and clay that is a node will always be a node unless vandalized (such as someone paves stone all over it [ it will still be a node but if clay it will be unaccessible ] ) but it can be drained if you take lots of clay from it, but it will recover over time.

You'll have better luck searching on the waterways in the shallow areas. Mudflats are rarely on a node, and if they are, often are on the edges.

Cave clay, while not so rare in the places it does spawn, is freakishly hard to find because of the sparsity of A) cave systems (that are almost always claimed entrances) and B) small pools uncommonly found inside said caves, some of which are deep water only (where you can't get clay spawns).

 Yep... went right over my head (as usual).

But yeah, blue bricks are nice. White's better, though ;)
