Rabbits are purely random. Just walk around and you'll eventually happen across one. Chicken are only found on grassland, heath and moor. Raise your exploration so you can see blueberries and chantrelles. If you are really desperate for food you could also simply go fishing.

remember spindly tap roots can also be eaten. though its highly advised not to live close to a river, its still good to live near a river so you can have access to the fast/easy/siimple method of travel/exploration they allow.

I'm sure he would still recognize a river when he comes across one. Just because one lives far enough away from a river to not be spotted by passersby, doesn't mean one can't make the treck to the nearest (fish-filled) river and bring a fishing-rod along (or even make one on the spot).

Yeh, but why did he mention it? maybe because he don't want to go fishing.
Hope you have a great day

I actually have no idea where the nearest river is, anyways i don't have the right skills to make all the necessary items to go fishing.

There is only one you need for that. Coincidentally, it's named "Fishing" and costs a mere 100 lp.
