Animals in pockets

If you have bunnys or chickens in your pocket or in a chest can they die or will they stay alive? I found 5 chickens and i dont know if they will die before i can make a Chicken coop for them in time.

they will die, but I don't know the amount of time it takes, you have atleast a day though.

I recall reading something about one ingame day (eight rl hours). Never put it to the test though.

I have had some chickens in a chest for more then 18 rl time hours and they are still alive.
