How do I make my 2nd character find my old home?

Postby andinuad » Tue Dec 20, 2011 10:51 am

So, by accident, I died.

Problem is: how do I make my 2nd character find the location where my old character had his home and staked land?

Since there are no coordinates viewable, I don't even know how far away I am. And, since my 1st character died, his old slogan does not seem to work when attempting to use that method to return with my 2nd character. The 2nd character did use the tombstone to inherit from the 1st.

I already sent an e-mail to one contact person indicated by the FAQ of this site; however, does anyone else have an idea of how to return to my old home?

Edit:
The problem is that instead of taking the normal path of "taking the stairs" when creating my 2nd character, I tried to use my old "hearth secret". Since the old "hearth secret" doesnt work due to the 1st character dying, I figured I had typed it wrong, and I removed a letter from what I thought was my old "hearth secret", and that worked. Problem is that my old "hearth secret" is very similar to the one of another player, so I was transported to the starting location of another player rather than my old character. So this is why I have no idea where my old home is.

unless you can find where you used to be on the map, then find where you are now on the map, you're pretty much stuck. if you weren't too advanced you can declaim your old land and start over all new(adventure declaim, you'll get lp from claim when you relog), if you were advanced a bit then start looking at the map and hope you're close to where you were.

I reckognize the "desert" and the rivers on a rather large part of my semi-island. Large enough to take over 30 mins just walking along the coast. Seems though like the haven-hearth world is insanely large, I've used another account to try to randomly get sent to somewhere on the old large semi-island, but after 5 tries no luck so far.

Seems like I think I found my old location using http://algeralith.info/HavenMap. One of the characters I randomly created on another account in hope to get close, luckily managed to steal a boat. The location of the boat-stealer I found, now I am traveling across the whole world in hope that I was right about my old location. Hope I don't travel all that way for nothing.

I had many "items" inside my house at the old location, so hopefully I can quickly "level" the boat-stealer enough to create a new hearth fire, then use his "hearth secret" to get a new character on my first account to the old home.

I still got no idea where my inheriter (which was lost in the middle of nowhere) is. So that one may be lost forever unless email fixes it; it had 5k LP on it.

Edit: The boat stolen was later on returned to the original owners. One of the few people I met helped me get another one.

getting there and not owning it isn't going to help you any. you'll need the character you used to nherit to get there. also 5k lp isn't much, unless you had some great curios stashed in that house(pearls, flots, empresses, bluebells) I'd say let it go and use the inheritor where he is.

I suggest that now you create a backup character on where you live.

For future reference, when you die and inherit your old character's stats and claim, you just have to climb the ladder to spawn near your old hearth fire. Should have asked or looked up the answer first. (You're lucky you didn't spawn on some psychotic hearthling's land.)

A small update about what happened to me and my characters:

As I mentioned before I tried sending a mail to the staff and meanwhile I had stolen a boat with a new account and was heading to what I hoped was my old home (the boat was returned later). The "real" inheritor was stuck in the middle of nowhere and I was hoping for the staff to manually teleport me.

What happen afterwards was that the place I was rowing to was indeed my old home! A problem arose though: I couldn't get inside my old timber house where I had stored many items since the claim was just inside the entrance. Since I didn't find a way to "allow" a person from distance to enter the claim, my "real" inheritor just abandoned the claim.

Well inside the home I rejoiced thinking that I would now be able to get massive amounts of learning points just by taking out items from my cupboards. It turns out I was wrong, just withdrawing gave no learning points. I was though at least happy that I found my old home so I quickly learned hearth magic to take "A Beautiful Dream!" from the old dream catcher (which is a part of my old home along with the timber house) and then I built a hearth fire and setuped a hearth secret. So at that point I decided to start a 3rd account to use the hearth secret of my 2nd account and then store as extra backup, then I created a new character on my first account, which also used the heath secret from my 2nd account, which in a sense I wanted to become the "spiritual" inheritor of the character which died on my 1st account.

It was dissappointing that I had to refind everything again. However, the stolen boat was a wonderful addition. I realized how much easier hunting and foraging was with a boat. Far easier than I would have imagined since previously I was expecting the boat to be rather slow or require high maintenance. I was also glad that since I found my old home I would know the area pretty well, which included a quality 29-30 acre+ball clay node, which at that time I thought was amazingly good and enabled me to get good exp through the Toy Chariot curiosity.

A lot has happened since those days. Most importantly I died with my "spiritual" inheritor when attempting a "pull hair"-from-auroch-then-instant-teleport plan, which worked 3 times until the auroch aggroed and I died within seconds as the whole herd attacked me and aggro denies teleport. This time I used the inheritor-system correctly and was spawned at my home. The inheritor of my "spiritual inheritor" used same "last name" but different "first name"; being able to use multiple words just like real names is a feature I really enjoy in this game.

Since that second death, my characters have never died again. I've had plenty of adventures living like a hermit, such as stealing seeds from settlements so that I can start my own mini-farm, running from my life from bears, boars and players. There was only one time I had a friendly human encounter, a Russian I think he said he was, he reached me while I was carrying my boat over a small patch of grass to get quickly from a lake to a neighbouring river. Rest have either fled, been asleep or have wanted to kill me. I remember being chased by boat for over 20 minutes by a determined player until he finally gave up or spared my life.

I've found better clay spots and water spots through my adventures by boat. Lately I've tried finding high quality stone, which I read can be found in mountains, but no luck so far. Managed to get two feldspars while searching though.

My farm is small but I have now all types of crops. My carrots are heading above quality 35, while the rest of my crops are steadily reaching and passing quality 20-30.

Rather recently I finally tried to kill a boar with my quality 15 sling and I did so succesfully, although I had to run after him like forever to get some killing blows in.

I've also started a minitest growing four trees. Will monitor how quickly they reach the different stages of their development.

On the defensive side, my original home (which is also where I was first when I started) was in the middle of a forest, far away from water. I have always been a person that tries to be loyal, so although I had a long walking path to nearest water, I have stayed in the same place and tried my best to create a home there. Luckily, the advantage of being so far inside the land, is that practically noone tries to attack you. I have though started a major palisade project covering a large area around my home. Just getting all inside the claim will take a lot of learning points for me. Meanwhile, I am paving the area, not halfway done yet, since I read and learnt the hard way through kiln-decay and chicken coop-decay that I need paved + claim to prevent decay. My old timber house is on pure grass, but the repairs for it are okay nonetheless. The kiln will be replaced with a higher quality one when it dies to decay; it wouldn't feel right just destroying it manually.

I am also starting to collect wax from my lonely beehive until I get enough to build a mining hole.

I try to keep a balance between reading a lot of info and learning and finding out by myself through experience. I live alone and I intend to do so as long as I can.

I have enjoyed the game tremendously and I really enjoy the freedom this games give me. I can only hope that it will keep entertaining me and letting me play the way I want to for a lot more time.
------------------

Edit: As for my "real" inheritor, I never received a reply to the mail I sent to a staffmember. I suppose that's fine though since it is holidays and a free game with low upkeep.

Edit: Actually I have died three times in total. My very first death came when I attempted raid an ant nest very early on. That character was so new so I just started over once randomly, which landed me at the "home" which I was talking about.

Stream of consciousness writing is bad, mmkay?

I can't really tell what you're asking here. Sum it up in a few short words. Is the topic the actual question?
