theory: smelting uses the following formula

((100)*3(fuel Q)*2(smelter Q))^1/6

however with such a limited dataset, this is probably wrong. if anyone else can post any data of fuel quality, smelter quality, and output quality then i can confirm or deny.

Looking at these numbers and only considering only simple formulas, I would conclude that the charcoal weighs in 5 times, as

100 + 49 + (5*25) = 274

274/7= ~39

However, I don't get why charcoal would weigh in 5 times when you only have to put in 4 pieces to complete the process.

We definitely need more data to come up with either a simple or extensive formula like posted above.

i doubt the number of pieces of charcoal has any effect. it's simply the average q of the charcoal * whatever weight factor

2(fuelQ)+(SmelterQ)+(OreQ)
--------------------------------- = Bar Quality
5

This work?

Oh also, higher quality charcoal requires higher level trees(blocks and branches), which only require higher quality soil and water which is free =)

technically that works babuja, but where is the 5 coming from?

also, higher level trees also require higher level clay for the pots and higher level herb tables, which require higher level trees, and higher level plant fiber.

Well there is a formula on the wiki that uses a 4 but it didnt work so i tried 5 lol

Maybe vodoodog doesn't actually know the quality of his smelter and also all of the truncated graphically missing decimals. I'm led to believe the game only rounds numbers for the display.

Some sort of identify feature to check the quality of buildables would be neat.

well i'm pretty sure loftar tweaked the forumula for smelters after he posted that, because people were getting higher quality metal than he had intended. i believe it's hasn't changed for ovens and kilns though.
