Started in a "stone area/mountain"...

Postby Kkameel » Tue Jan 03, 2012 9:10 pm

Hello,

I recently found out about this game and finally decided to give it a shot after indulging myself into the "tutorial"/getting started topics...

Now I started and got placed in a remote place, were there are only a handfull trees nearby and no food to be found. I'm wondering if anyone has any helpfull hints, because as far as I know I can't remove my HF just yet can I? Neither do I seem to find any creature nor a bush/tree/water where any food would be found in. I'm not sure if this really is the beginner area or not, since some parts of the wiki are still talking about a previous version of the game.

I hope someone could help me out on hints to survive in this remote area.

Nonetheless, thanks already.

You spawned on a mountain. Explore! Go out and find the world for the world will not come to you =)
Just choose a direction and begin your journey until you come across better terrain. Forest is okay but if you can find grassland then that's all the better.

Grassland is very light green while forest is a darker green and generally dense with trees. Grassland is more likely to have fruit trees, chickens, etc. and will not impede you as much as other terrain when running. Convenient.

Also there is no newbie starting area so you're in the real world =)

Cheers,

thought so... but wanted to be sure before I'd go into the "unknown". I'm on my way already! :-)

Thanks!

when you get the hearth magic skill you can build a dreamcatcher from a couple of branches and a string (you can use the spindly taproots that you will find once you buy the foraging skill). it will take 10-20 minute for a dream to be ready in the dreamcatcher, then you can get the dream and build a new hearthfire. your old hearthfire will go out.

Haha!

I was about to ask. Is it possible to settle a timber house on a mountain? I guess not?

I mean, I'd love to get my property on the mountain now that I'm accustomed to it.. I've actually got attached to my spot! :P

It is, you just need to pave a foundation first. The catch is that there is no way to remove that pavement and it prevents spawning of valuable curiosities forever. That's all =)

A couple days ago I came across the fresh bodies & murder scents of ~10 newbies who were paving and building houses on the mountain. You can do it, its just not a great idea, since people like to wander the mountains and look at the interesting plants (eidelweiss), and paving ruins this.

Ah don't let that scare you. Bodies mean nothing. Runestones also mean nothing. People put a lot of faith in skeletons and rocks for no real reason and it's rather silly.
