Weaponry for noobs? Villages with public mine/forge/anvil?

Postby StarCroc » Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:47 pm

How do I get my hands on some Iron? Are there any villages or towns known to have public mines and is there any eazy way to get to them?

Nope. Trade for it, explore for it, or dig down for it. Raiding for it/Stealing it is also an option.

You said Trade, What would something like 2 swords cost? Would they be worth it?

Depends on the material, quality, and who you're trading with. Check out apples for oranges and see what they're willing to trade for and what they have to offer.

Swords are worthless if you don't know how to use them.

What would you suggest, Were at an Impass due to a low amount of animals in the area, LP is in need and the only thing around is Ants, and foxes and bears.

I would suggest developing industry and training explorers/foragers to map your area for valuable resources that can be exploited. Get farming up so that you can have a domestic presence capable of feeding your foragers and improving their perception so they can better acquire valuable foragables.

A sword in the hands of someone without the literal skills, with no knowledge of the combat system, and very little Melee Combat or Unarmed Combat skill (Anything under 80) won't have a use for a sword.

I think that a sling or bow would better suit your hands and your needs.

My advice still stands, just now you two must fill the role of both foragers and farmers. A sword does indeed have impressive damage but it's only capable of applying that damage to the enemy if you can hit them. You will not be able to hit break their defense bar and land a blow on them as a new player. Bows and Slings ignore defense and do straight damage as long as you can keep yourself safely away from the target, making them preferable. Killing animals from boats or shallow waters is much more realistic than doing so in melee combat early on.

You also likely don't have anything worth trading yet so producing or foraging valuables first will work out to your benefit.

IDK, I find it easier to get started on killing deer with sword. Just gotta find some ants.
