Making a mine hole

Postby 100Rads » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:25 am

So I decided I should start mining. I got the Mining skill, the materials, but I cant make a mine hole. Do I need the Prospecting skill?

Well, I'm pretty sure you can place a minehole anywhere now, so he might think that you just have to make a minehole, and then you've got access to metal.

You have to find a node first, OP. Check http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Prospecting for details on how to do so.

No, not any more. You can place a minehole anywhere, just like you said. If OP feels like tunneling for days in a direction to MAYBE hit ore, that's completely up to him or her.

OP: you're usually better off using a nearby cave. If you explore a bit, you'll find one. Of course, there are the exceptions that there are no nearby caves that go deep enough to be able to mine in them or even the probable chance that everything in the area has been claimed already. At this point, if someone has JUST a claim up and no wall protecting the entrance, the player is not coming back. Get Trespassing and just walk on in (the scents last one game day and you can't be summoned with them). Maybe even drop a village claim down there to revoke the blocking claim (or expand your current village claim over it). After doing this, make sure to get your own wall up around it so nobody else can claim jump you.

Well, that kind of sucks. I just spent 7,500LP on Ranging. Now I have to save another 5000LP for Prospecting.

That's like two or three mediocre curios. You have decent INT and exploration? If not, I wouldn't be buying skills like that and be focusing on improving your chances to find those good curios. When all is said and done, you'll be getting 100k LP/day easily, 250-300k or more if you push it.

The biggest problem to me is that I can play only 2 hours a day, if Im lucky. So I have a very low LP gain.

that's definitely a hindrance to getting your personal belief sliders moved, which is a huge chunk of LP you can lose out on. If you had a safe place you could stay afk for long periods of time, it would help, but the chances of coming back to a dead character are definitely there.

The belief slider doesn't move if your character is AFK with Zzz's over their head.
